How to Design a Garden That Will Impress Your Friends

A beautiful garden is a perfect place to have an informal gathering. Whether it’s a quiet lunch with a best friend or a party for a crowd, an elegant but natural setting helps everyone relax and enjoy the occasion.

The three tips listed below should help you create a gorgeous garden.

Plant Some Flowers

The heart of your garden is the flowers. Whether you choose a single hue or a riot of colors, graceful blooms are a delight to see.

The biggest key to success is picking plants that can survive in your environment. It’s usually easy to find plants that will grow well in full sun. Geraniums, daisies, roses, sunflowers, and lavender are among the flowers that need to soak up the sunlight all day in order to thrive.

If your yard only gets sun for part of the day, you may have to do a little work to find plants that tolerate shade. Soil quality is another important factor. You can use an inexpensive kit to find out the pH level in your yard. There are additives available to correct soil that’s too alkaline for garden plants.

For the greatest visual impact, don’t limit your garden to just flowers. Grasses, shrubs and small trees add definition and provide diversity in terms of shape and height.

Add Some Outdoor Furniture

Adorning your patio with quality outdoor furniture will add elegance to your backyard and provide a nice place to sit when entertaining guests. Make sure guests are comfortable by choosing seats with supportive, breathable cushions.

If you choose natural products such as rattan or wicker, all edges should be smooth and free of splinters. When selecting the size and number of furniture pieces, consider how much storage area you have. Your items will last longer if they’re protected from the elements when not in use. If space is limited, choose folding or collapsible furniture.

Install a Water Feature

The sight and sound of a water feature can add an air of tranquility to almost any yard. Many gardeners speak very highly about the health and environmental benefits of water fountains.

Tucking a water feature into a planted area will lend a naturalistic look to your garden. Make sure you can still access the feature, though, so you can clean it as needed.

Designing and planting a garden is an incredibly satisfying task. Sharing that lovely garden with friends and family will make the experience all the more valuable.
