Here’s a quick list of our top 4 ways to remove gel ink from your clothing. There is no doubt that most people want to look their best on every occasion.

This is one of the main reasons why people put a lot of time and effort before selecting any type of clothing item.

Obviously, there are a variety of outfits that a person could wear for each particular engagement.

For example, a business executive may decide to wear a three-piece suit at the office.

A night out on the town may involve an evening gown or tuxedo. The style of clothing one chooses is endless.

Yes, it is true what they say, clothes truly do make the man or woman.

Since clothes are therefore so important for looking good, what would you do if you or someone accidentally stained your favorite outfit?

For instance, let’s say that you are at an office party and someone who had a little too much to drink broke open a G2 gel pen and the ink spilled all over your expensive Armani suit or a favorite skirt and blouse.

Why Is Gel Ink So Hard To Clean?

There are certain items when spilled on clothing are easy to remove. However, gel ink is not one of them.

This fluid is a type of hybrid of oil-based and water technologies. A water-based liquid suspends the oil-based pigment inside of the pen which makes it relatively easy to flow when writing.

This type of ink is difficult to remove because it is permanent.

The key is to remove the stain as quickly as possible because if it remains for a long period of time it can be quite difficult to eliminate.

Removing Gel Ink From Clothing With Ammonia

Fortunately, there are a variety of commercial stain removal solutions that you can try. One manufacturer recommends mixing a gallon of water with a teaspoon of ammonia.

Put the entire mixture into a spray bottle and then add an additional scoop of an enzyme type laundry detergent.

Mix all of the ingredients thoroughly and then spray the stain until it is completely saturated.

After the fabric is completely saturated, grab an old toothbrush, and scrub the stain. Then rinse the area with water and examine.

If the stain has faded a bit but is still visible, repeat the procedure. Once it has completely disappeared, wash the entire garment.

This method will work on your sweater, sweatshirt, khakis pants , scrubs, denim jeans even if it has dried.

Using Vinegar To Remove G2 Pen Marks From Clothes

Another professional cleaning company recommends using equal parts of distilled white vinegar and rubbing alcohol.

Combine both of these items together in a spray bottle and once again saturate the stained area.

Then sprinkle the entire area with table salt. Vigorously rub the table salt over the stain using your fingers.

Wash the garment using a regular laundry detergent. However, before you wash the garment, rinse it completely using hot water.

Another time-proven effective gel ink stain solution is lemon juice and liquid laundry detergent.

Mix together a tablespoon of lemon juice with a tablespoon of liquid laundry detergent.

Apply this mixture to the stained area and let it sit for approximately 2 hours. Then use cold water to rinse the entire garment before washing it with regular laundry detergent.

Remove The Pen Stain By Blotting

Another technique is to use blotters. There are a variety of household chemicals that can be utilized to blot out this type of blemish.

Simply put some clean white paper towels behind the stain before blotting.

It is important to use only white paper towels so that there is not any chance of transferring dye from a colored paper towel onto the clothing.

This obviously would cause additional issues. Soak the stained area with whichever chemical solution you prefer.

Use a clean white paper towel to press the stained area towards the white paper towel behind the garment.

It is important to blot the material as opposed to rubbing it.

You do not want the chemical solution to make the splodge grow larger as you rub it.

Change the white paper towels when necessary so that they are ready to absorb additional gel ink.

Continue this process until all of the gel ink stains have transferred from the garment to the towel.

Some of the solvents and chemicals that you can choose from include hairspray, all-purpose household cleaners, rubbing alcohol, turpentine, or nail polish remover.

Once all of the gel ink has been removed, wash the garment in the hottest water allowed for the type of fabric. Add bleach, if possible, to the wash load.

If All Else Fails Use Bleach

You can test the fabric to see if bleach is okay by applying a mixture of 1/4 cup of water and 2 teaspoons of bleach to an inconspicuous area of the fabric.

If the fabric changes color after applying the bleach solution then you may need to use an oxygen or color-safe bleach product.

When the washing has been complete it is important to only air dry the fabric.

Do not use a commercial dryer until you are positive that all of the gel ink stains have been eliminated.
