How to Make Shared Spaces in Your Home More Comfortable
Your home is built up of many rooms. And while each room serves a different function, there are some rooms that are simply much more used than others. figuring out how to make those main hubs really enjoyable and functional is important for your quality of life.
Get Rid of Clutter
Getting rid of clutter is one of the first and most important steps to take towards making a shared living space feel more comfortable.
The more unnecessary items you are able to eliminate, the more space you will have to do the tasks and activities that you and your family actually want to do there. Additionally, clearing out clutter has huge mental benefits. Without as much visual business, the room will feel more calming and inviting.
Buy New Furniture
After you’ve gone through the unnecessary clutter, it’s time to analyze your furniture.
As you think about the function of the room, make sure you have furniture that appropriately serves that need. For example, if you intend to use the room as a place to watch TV, make sure the couch is comfortable and can seat plenty of people so that they can all easily seat the TV.
Not only does it add function, but furniture is also an important part of interior design. As you look at the room, does the design feel cohesive? If not, the space will feel less inviting and less comfortable for your guests.
Make It Multi-Functional
In addition to making your furniture more comfortable in and of itself, think carefully about the different functions you have for the room. If the shared space is one of the main living spaces, it’s important that you think about how each family member will be using it.
Is it a playroom and a home office? A place where your oldest son does his homework? And where do the other kids watch TV? Thinking about all the different roles this room might serve will help you figure out how to tailor it down to a few specific functions.
Figuring out how to make your main living spaces meet your family’s needs can be challenging at first.
When it seems like this single room in your house has to play so many different roles, it can be hard to know how to really organize it. As you work to design the space, be willing to play around with design or to move certain items out of the room in order to better prioritize the most important aspects of the space.
